[edit]The electoral wards bit needs prettifying. I'm not entirely sure what to do with it. It seems likely some bits are copyvios? (the descriptions of boundaries by reference to maps and features) Morwen - Talk 11:54, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

School league table
[edit]I removed the 'league table' of school results because Estyn doesn't inspect schools annually, so the exam results cited won't necessarily be directly comparable. People may be aware that since 2001, the Assembly Government hasn't published individual school performance information.[1] Information on individual schools is still available in prospectuses and governors’ annual reports, but adding them all together to produce a local league table may violate WP:SYNTH. Page move
[edit]The full official name, if that's what we're going to have here, is Conwy County Borough and not "County Borough of Conwy" (see the council's own website!); changes like this SHOULD BE DISCUSSED FIRST. It will now need the assistance of an administrator to delete the redirect and either restore the original title or move it to Conwy County Borough (there is a strong argument for plain Conwy (county borough) as that is the name used by most people both within the county - yep, that's the usual term usually used - and throughout Wales). This undiscussed move was most inconsiderate and ill-conceived, even if one accepts good faith on the part of the editor. Enaidmawr (talk) 18:39, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- The move was made in line with the Wikipedia UK naming policy. Conwy (county borough) was the format used several years ago, which was replaced by County Borough of Conwy. I am searching through the archives to find the appropriate citation, but it may take a few hours. Consequently, the move was not undiscussed ot ill-conceived, but was the result of discussions involving editors of articles throughout the United Kingdom, and is in line with the format used on international pages. The fact that the County Borough Council uses a particular style means very little : some councils just use, for example Conwy Council. If you want my personal view, I would agree that Conwy County Borough is better, but that wasn't the consensus reached, presumably because City of Salt Lake City doesn't sound quite as ridiculous as Salt Lake City City. - Well, I beg to disagree with Wikipedia UK naming policy in this instance. A bit of leeway should be made for commonsense and actual usage. It is invariably called either 'Conwy County Borough' (or 'Conwy county borough'), Conwy county or plain Conwy (in ascending order...). I also fail to see the rationale for not having the place's name as the first word of the title (this argument applies to Bridgend County Borough et al., also moved). I hope I'm not going to be accused of being "racist" again for bringing this up, but even if this has apparently been decided - presumably by UK Geo - wouldn't it have been an idea to put a notice of discussion at the Wales project discussion page first, to get people's views instead of imposing this out of the blue? We are supposed to be a community. I'm a regular contributor here and am not aware of anybody from the Wales project taking part in "discussions involving editors of articles throughout the United Kingdom". One thing I do approve is your replacing the hideous and meaningless bureaucratic term "principal area" with "county" or "county borough"; so at least we agree on something! Dead/invalid links
[edit]This link http://www.conwy.gov.uk/doc.asp?cat=2027&doc=1205[permanent dead link] is dead, but I can't edit the section for some reason.
The link to Conwys website http://www.conwy.gov.uk/ has a DMOZ tag, which I'm having trouble removing. (I can't remember the wikifu, & keep making a template tag. :) ) Archolman | User talk:Archolman 14:52, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
Notable people
[edit]I reverted a good faith edit starting a list of notable people on this page [2]. In general we don't put these lists on county articles and with good reason. These lists can get very large on individual town pages, and if we copy them all in to the county article page they will tend to take over, whereas if we are selective, we have issues of why the editor selected those entries only. However, I am aware that a few county pages do have such a list, particularly Gwynedd. The guidance at WP:UKCOUNTIES says that notable people can be an optional section, but should be avoided as a list. The section, if included, should be in prose, and an alternative is just to interweave discussion of notable people in the page text. Thus, despite the presence at Gwynedd, I don't think we should have the list section as was inserted. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 18:53, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Sirfurboy, agree the added list was a bit selective, and yes it would be better if it were in prose, of only the most notable people in the county deemed by sources, I guess, or integrated with the text. It was an arbitrary list. Although I just linked to the category at Wrexham County Borough.
- Also is the user connected to Mattcymru and Mattcymru2? DankJae 19:03, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
