Article needs additional sources
[edit]The article needs additional sources to demonstrate notability as well as show that it is not advertising. The article especially needs secondary sources for this. --Ronz 03:06, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Current refs
[edit]I found these while trying to verify the current references. Can someone confirm?
- Beyer, H. & Holtzblatt, K. (1998). Contextual Design: Defining Customer-Centered Systems. San Francisco: Morgan Kaufmann. Is this supposed to be: Beyer, H. & Holtzblatt, K. Contextual Design : A Customer-Centered Approach to Systems Designs. 1997. Morgan Kaufmann. ISBN: 1-55860-411-1?
- Holtzblatt, K: Contextual Design: Experience in Real Life. Mensch Computer 2001. refers to [1]?
--Ronz 03:43, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- This last reference is not available anymore unfortunately. --Tinodb (talk) 10:42, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
The first reference (Beyer & Holtzblatt, 1998) is a well known book, still in print. This article needs quite a bit of work, because there is much more to say about contextual design besides summarizing its steps. I can add content and other secondary sources when I get a chance. --Ematienne 18:53, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- I cannot find an isbn for (Beyer & Holtzblatt, 1998). Can the 1997 reference above be used instead in the article? --Ronz 19:11, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- The ISBN above is correct. The book appeared in 1997 but (as publishers sometimes do), the copyright date printed inside the book is 1998. I think they do that to give the book another year of recency. The citation should be 1998 though--I think that would be less confusing to people trying to track down the book. --Ematienne 20:14, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
There's also a bit of a back-history developing the concept in the academic literature before the more widely read books came out that isn't currently covered; I'll see if I can add that in somewhere. In light of that literature, it also wasn't purely developed by Beyer & Holtzblatt, as the current article suggests. One of the main early references is this paper from CHI 1990. --Delirium (talk) 07:06, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Merge with Contextual Inquiry?
[edit]- Keep - Even though contextual inquiry is used in the contextual design process, it is also independent. Many practitioners use contextual inquiry without using the other parts of contextual design, and the learn about CI without learning CD. I would argue for keeping two separate articles, but certainly having links between them. Ematienne 19:17, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Merge - I'd rather merge them since Contextual inquiry with no content beyond what is already here. If the section of this article ever expands enough to warrent a separate article, it can easily be done. --Ronz 23:56, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - CI is quite useful apart from its application to user-centered design (contextual design or other methods). The links should go to contextual design and to ethnographic inquiry. Parhelia 17:09, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
