Redirect
[edit]Is anybody working on writing an article called Contamination, or will this stay a Redirect to Pollution forever ? H Padleckas (talk) 15:18, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
I just tried to update this article to cover more of the chemical aspects of contamination. I hope this is helpful to people. I definitiely need the chemical definition to be referenceable within Wiki. I really wanted to keep the weed-contaminant analogy in (weed-plant out of place, contam. - chemical out of place) but I coldn't seem to work it in. Kirk shanahan (talk) 20:46, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Oh also, when and how should the redirection to pollution be cancelled? Kirk shanahan (talk) 20:48, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- When the article was written, the Redirect to Pollution was cancelled.
- I realize the Oct. 1 edit by User:Kirk shanahan to the definition of contamination was made in good faith, but I think he defined "impurity" rather than "contamination", which are closely related terms. I plan to fix up this problem some day, but I am busy with other things in my life these days. H Padleckas (talk) 04:10, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Impurity and contaminant are interchangeable terms. A contaminant causes a substance to be impure, thus it is an impurity. Contamination in its noun form doesn't have a similar term like 'impuritization' or some such however. In the verb form, contamination is the act of placing an impurity into something. We might want to add those concepts into the page as well. Kirk shanahan (talk) 16:23, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Biological contamination
[edit]It seems the article was concerned (as far as biology goes) only with the case of botched biochemical assays previously. Contamination (by microorganisms) can be a much bigger cause for concern. If you are doing culture (not just for small cultures either) or PCR it will pretty much completely destroy your experiment.
Maybe we should organize the article by contaminant type (living/non living) and expand it from there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ar-Pharazôn (talk • contribs) 11:19, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
