In 1895 $2.5 million. Can we get a sensible figure in today's dollars? The figure has recently been upped by an anon. editor with a checkered career of altering statistics in Wikipedia. --Wetman 06:36, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Penultimate"?

[edit]
penultimate marital prize of the Victorian age

Penultimate means second best or second to last. So who was the ultimate marital prize of the Victorian age? Binabik80 18:04, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Probably the Prince of Wales. Oh well, doesn't matter, the word was long ago edited out. Ariadne55 (talk) 03:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Height

I recently enjoyed a tour of Blenheim Palace and the guide mentioned that CV was 6 feet tall, hence perhaps the posture issue? In any case, her genes are still in the family, since the current (11th) Duke is 6'5"". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.132.153.100 (talk) 10:48, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity question

[edit]

The term half-Cuban, half-American as applied to Consuelo's godmother makes no sense. Consuelo Yznaga's father was a Cuban diplomat who moved permanently to the U.S. and Consuelo was born in Louisiana. She was 100% "American," not half. --Michael K SmithTalk 00:43, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dealing with ethnicity as a topic, I understand what both the original author and you mean. The term "half-English-American" might be a bit awkward, though, and may not be thoroughly true. LTC (Ret.) David J. Cormier (talk) 15:25, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Esperantist?

[edit]

Can anyone more knowledgeable confirm or deny this blog post which claims she favored/learned Esperanto? Thanks. Pikolas (talk) 13:23, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The non-encyclopedic tone of this article is incredibly distracting. Too many adjectives & adverbs, and excessively judgmental & value-laden — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.230.137.44 (talk) 00:41, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose you are right. It is a pleasure to read, however. Ttulinsky (talk) 00:28, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
