Diacritic
[edit]Why in this article does Heger's name have a diacritic over the first 'e', when it does not do so in the cited source? Other sources I have seen do not have the diacritic, including in The Brontë Myth by Lucasta Miller and The Brontë Society's biography of Charlotte. In addition, when looking at a primary source, one of the letters that Charlotte Brontë wrote, it's clear she did not address it to Héger, but to Heger. Héger or Heger?
[edit](continuing the previous discussion from 2016, which was not resolved)
Does anyone have sufficient expertise or access to resources to determine whether the surname should be spelled with or without an acute accent (accent aigu)? Currently WP has:
- both with and without the diacritic in: Constantin Héger (this article), Charlotte Brontë, Villette (novel), Brontë family, Edward Rochester
- with the accent in: The Life of Charlotte Brontë, 1896 in Belgium, Emily Brontë, Paul Héger, Marie Depage
- without the accent in: Heger, The Professor (novel)
The French WP article does not help, since it also has a mixture. Masato.harada (talk) 16:51, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
- The entry in the "National Biography of Belgium" has it without the accent: Biographie Nationale: Constantin Heger, this could also to be a useful source for expanding the article. EdwardUK (talk) 19:42, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
