Birth date not established by reliable sources.
[edit]Please do no add a birthdate without a reliable source. Google+ is not reliable since there is no way to verify the account actually belongs to the person in question. --I am One of Many (talk) 19:27, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Can somebody check the translations of newspaper article headlines?
[edit]Could somebody check the translation of the newspaper headlines in the Early Life and Education section? I endeavored to translate the titles of three Chinese newspaper articles, using my limited Chinese and a dictionary. Newspaper headlines are idiomatic and slangy. I tried to create idiomatic equivalent English headlines language (rather than literal translation), as follows:
- 美影集演「台裔虎媽」收視登喜劇寶座 (American TV series "Taiwanese Tiger Mom": watch TV ascend to the comedy throne)
- 封面人物 | 媽「疏忽」 造就吳恬敏 (Cover story: Mom says "hands off" is what made Constance Wu) Maybe "Cover actress's mom says..." would be better?)
- 虎媽超哈李安 菜鳥移民開星路 (Tiger mom adores Ang Li, Fresh off the Boat starts road to stardom)
Somebody with experience with this kind of translation maybe could check these. Thanks! M.boli (talk) 21:29, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
Constance Wu is not Chinese
[edit]As the subject of this article is an American, I was curious as to why translating her name into Chinese script (in the infobox) is even necessary. --SchutteGod (not logged in) 70.181.130.177 (talk) 21:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- As a Chinese-American, Wu's Chinese name is part of her cultural heritage which could be of interest to many people looking her up on Wikipedia. In much the same vein, the biographies of some Native American people contain their enrolled tribe and names in the tribe's languages and the biographies of some rabbis contain their names in Yiddish or Hebrew. M.boli (talk) 02:55, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Except that Native Americans are actually Native American. Rabbis are actually experts in the Hebrew Language as part of their job description. Wu is simply an American of Chinese extraction. Are we in the practice of translating Scottish Americans' names into Gaelic, or Russian Americans' names into Cyrillic script? --SchutteGod (not logged in) 70.181.130.177 (talk) 07:18, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not understanding your question. 吳恬敏 is her Chinese name, it isn't a translation (or transliteration) of anything. Just like if you look up the actor Bela Lugosi you find his Hungarian name is Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó. You look up the First Nations actor Dan George and find "Born as Geswanouth Slahoot in North Vancouver, his English name was originally Dan Slaholt." You look up Rabbi Twerski who writes zillions of self-help and devotional books and find his Hebrew (and Yiddish) name is אֲבְרָהָם יְהוֹשֻׁע טווערסקי . It's not that he is a Hebrew "expert," that's his name. Here is an article from last week, the headline starts something like "Taiwan-descended actress Wu Tianmin Golden Globes finalist...." Constance Wu has an English name and a Chinese name. Being American doesn't preclude that. M.boli (talk) 08:20, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

- LOL. I'm sure the guys who hate her for being with a white guy will be pleased. But decent, copyright free photos of celebs and other recent figures are notoriously difficult to come by on here.--2A00:23C4:3E08:4000:3928:EB7C:F949:7915 (talk) 22:33, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
