Neutrality
[edit]I have some doubts about the neutrality of the article. maybe some sentences should be reformulated.--Greece666 22:36, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Will be easier, if you specify which sentences. Kahkonen 16:36, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
This is a ridiculous article. It is completely unbalanced. It does not delineate what is distinctive about Laestadianism over against Evangelical Lutherans or evangelicals in general, and it completely ignores the controversy surrounding Laestadians. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bryanmcwhite (talk • contribs) 14:32, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Redundancy
[edit]There seems to be some redundancy between this article and the main Laestadianism article. Does the history and doctrine differ much between the different branches? If so, which article should have the main discussion about the differences? In other words, does this article describe the history and doctrine of Laestadianism or Conservative Laestadianism.Labongo 14:38, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- This article describes doctrine of CL and the beginning of the history of Laestadianism. Now there is not very much about history of CL. Years 1900-2000 is passed by "After this big breakup, some other groups have also departed from..." :-) But I think that there should be some quick explanation about history till break-up in this article and deeper description about it can be in Laestadianism article. Own history of CL starts from break-up. Kahkonen 16:47, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I have never heard about any Laestadianists here in Iceland, but I follow such things pretty ardently. Pleace point out any sources of this claim and information about their operations here.
What is this church´s view of women ministers?
- There was old information about Iceland. There were organized some services in The 20th century (or 1990s). I updated the article and now there is also an answer to your question. Dcba 10:40, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Everybody goes to Hell except Laestadians ?
[edit]I have heard from many sources (some of them Laestadian) about their belief that everybody outside their church will go to Hell (I guess it includes almost all English wikipedia readers). It can be either official doctrine or a very common (mis-?) interpretation, on both cases the article should cover this question. Warbola 05:10, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that is true. It's hard for people to accept, but laestadians believe it is a compelling part of the double edged sword of the law of god and forgiveness of sins. non-believers must realize that they are going to hell unless they repent their sins. I used to be a part of that nonsense, but now I'm 100% atheist. There is no hell for anyone to worry about, so who cares. No need to take offense, its just like someone telling you that the tooth fairy is angry at you. ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.113.41.155 (talk) 12:46, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Additional information about the child sex scandal and creepy parallel to a similar scandal from the 1980s in USA
[edit]1. THANK YOU to the two anonymous IP users who added the info and reference to the long Finnish article questioning the bonafides of the molestation scandal! This needs to be expanded by someone who is fluent in Finnish, who could take the major points and summarize them for this article. My Finnish is real' bad, and even with computer translation, it will take some serious study to understand this article.
2. What is reported by the article author Kaaro, AFAICT, is eerily similar to the HOAX child sex abuse scandal of the 1980s in USA based on "repressed memory" in which therapists without proper training or moral conviction caused great horror and destroyed the lives of thousands of innocent childcare workers and elementary school teachers. Many of these people lost everything & went to prison as convicted child molesters. Many but not all were later exonerated and released. The most famous case was probably the McMartin preschool trial. AFAIK, none of the deranged counselors who destroyed so many lives and caused enormous human suffering were ever charged with a crime. USA is the land of the Puritans who burned innocent women as witches as recently as a couple hundred years ago. We owe our cultural and to some extent legal heritage (e.g., "separation of church and state") to the "pilgrims" who were persecuted in mainstream Europe but who as soon as they arrived in the "New World" started persecuting everyone else, including Native Americans and Quakers, and never really ever let up. (It is a religious movement that AFAICT shares a lot in common with ISIL/ISIS.)
3. One television program that exposed this hoax to the American public was a public television Frontline (news feature) program called "Divided Memories". (Last time I checked that program was available on Youtube in three parts. One approximate quote by a narrator/researcher from that program describing the evolution of severity of false accusations CREATED BY THE SO-CALLED COUNSELORS/FALSE-ACCUSATION-PLANTERS in the minds of vulnerable young children or disturbed adolescent girls was, "First Dad was cold to me. Then I remembered he touched me inappropriately. Later it evolved that Dad had raped me. As the counseling went on and more 'repressed memories' came out, I remembered we cut the heart out of the pizza delivery man and sacrificed him." One of the common threads in a high percentage of the counselor-planted accusations that caused the courts to eventually realize their error was the striking pattern of evolution of 'repressed memories' to eventually include horrific "Satanic" rituals, many of which would be logically and logistically difficult to carry out in pre-school and elementary school environments.
4. It is disturbing to think that the Finnish justice system may have fallen victim to the same kind of modern witch hunt--IF that is the case. I always thought the American scandal of the 1980s was owing to the Puritan heritage that Americans share. Having personally lived in FI and other European countries, I have some firsthand knowledge of the different values and customs between USA and W. Europe--which makes it surprising to me that Finnish criminal justice would fall for this nonsense. 'Had thought it was a unique marriage between Freudian psychology and FUNDAMENTALIST Puritan Christianity in-bred in American culture. 'Had thought Finns were a more rational, level-headed people all around.
5. Please help by expanding the rebuttal section based on what the article says, someone who is fluent in Finnish. Paavo273 (talk) 17:43, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
