Need for review

I came across this article in following up a reference from a featured article. Parts of it are adequate. Others appear to have been translated, not very well, so that sometimes the meaning is not at all clear. It needs a thorough review. --Martin Wyatt (talk) 20:21, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Just my 2 cents...Martin Wyatt may be dubious, but the 15,000 rioters that is flagged is cited (Auger, 2008). Further, the Auger piece provides the following to substantiate this number: ‘Lt-Col Machin to DMD,’ 2 Apr. 1918, file 520, reel C-280, MG26, LAC; ‘MD-5 War Diaries: Quebec City,’ 29 Mar. 1918, file 977, reel T-11124, Records of the Department of Militia and Defence, RG9, LAC. Auger's piece is published in a respected, peer-reviewed journal. Be dubious all you want, but it checks out. So...I think this dubious flag needs to be removed ASAP. "Once armed rioters began to fire on troops from concealed positions, the soldiers were ordered to fire on the crowds, immediately causing them to disperse." This part is misleading. Most witness testimony, some audio still available online, and even Auger's article, speak of rioters throwing bricks and rocks found on the pavement. The line as it is, to me, speak of an ambush or organized attacked, which was not the case. I would like the backers of this article to provide a corroborating source. Thank you. This is article is bit misleading in saying that Hughes did not mobilize any of the traditional French-Canadian regiments as he didn't mobilize any of the traditional English-Canadian regiments either. Hughes scrapped the regimental system, and created a brand new system of numbered battalions. Having said that much, Hughes was something of an anti-Catholic and anti-French bigot, so he was not exactly friendly towards Quebec. --A.S. Brown (talk) 08:13, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
