Coordinates
[edit]I see that the coordinates were added back to this article. Everyone should take note that WP:NOR explicitly permits the use of primary sources for descriptive claims. These coordinates are available from the USGS through a simple search. Copying coordinates from the USGS is the epitome of using a primary source to verify a purely descriptive claim. — Carl (CBM · talk) 23:41, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- The coordinates for this geographic feature are not available from the USGS nor any other known reliable source. As they are not sourced and can not be verified, I am removing them. WTucker (talk) 05:22, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- They are available from GNIS, according to Orangedog. Your view on whether caves should have coords is well known from prior discussions; you'll have to accept that others emphatically disagree with you. --Tagishsimon (talk) 08:03, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- No disrespect to Orangedog; but, Orangedog is not a reliable source. This is not about my views on whether caves should have coords. I have no problem with publishing coords that are sourced properly. WTucker (talk) 14:48, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- I looked the coordinates up in GNIS in December [1]. The info is:

Conklings Cave, ID: 916143, Class: Mine, County: Doña Ana, State: NM, Latitude: 321124N, Longitude: 1063507W, Elevation: 4806, Map: Bishop Cap
- I also have a copy of a published GNIS data file for New Mexico that includes the location. The GNIS is a perfectly reliable source for locations like this. The location also available republished by sites like libremap.org. The data there is the GNIS data, just with a different search form on top of it. — Carl (CBM · talk) 12:21, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- The coordinates for the so called "mine" named "Conkings Cave" which you cite above were in error and have been removed from the GNIS data and are no longer published by the USGS. This feature is a cave, not a mine. You are now sourcing these coordinates to unreliable sources. WTucker (talk) 14:48, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
