Remote Locamotives
I feel like this entire section should almost be deleted as it is hardly neutral and mentions statistics without any sources. 72.207.206.79 (talk) 09:54, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
The PSS on a NSW Train Link XPT/Xplorer is not a Guard. They perform a few of the duties that were formerly performed by the Guard, but they are not a Guard in the [specific to New South Wales, at least] historic sense of the word. Their safeworking qualifications extend as far as being able to access the rail corridor-pretty much everyone employed on the railways can do that, operate doors and give a right of way from a platform and place protection-railway track signals aka detonators. A "Guard" has these responsibilities, as well as being able to divide and amalgamate sets, direct propelling/setting back movements, move a train in a driver incapacitated situation, wind, clip and lock points, direct rail traffic movements by means of hand signals etc. A Guard on the other hand does very little work in relation to the passengers on the train, whereas the PSS is an active member of the passenger service crew. Although the two roles overlap somewhat they are distinct and it is inaccurate to say "all NSW passenger trains carry a Guard. 49.181.48.57 (talk) 15:14, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
