Citation for speech by Barak Obama
[edit]To editor at IP 71.115.3.186: It's not a sufficient reference that you heard a speaker at Concord High School. Please read about the original research policy to help you understand what this means. Some examples of references are a published newspaper article, the transcript of a TV or radio news report, or a published national magazine article such as NewsWeek. When you find a good reference, cite it in the article and you can remove the "citation needed" and "original research" tags. If you need help finding a reference, start with google or go directly to NewsWeek. --Mtd2006 (talk) 23:31, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Another question you might have is, what's the difference between a fact (something you know is true), and a verifiable fact? Please read the verifiability policy and the fact and reference guideline. Briefly, these articles explain that an encyclopedia is about facts that can be verified, and that third-party references are required.
Wikipedia has a firm policy about biographical information about living people. I didn't remove the Obama visit because it's not in any way defamatory; instead I tagged it as needing a reference. However, strictly speaking, Wikipedia does not accept unreferenced facts about living people. The policy is: Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons—whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. --Mtd2006 (talk) 00:51, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
