Composed in 1950

[edit]

And how do we know this? Sources, please. At least one source has it first published in 1947, which would make that very difficult indeed. Schissel | Sound the Note! 15:24, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Composed in 1950

[edit]

This has been addressed with the footnote reference to Frogley's text. However, absent objection, I will add the Michael Kennedy Catalogue as a second and arguably more authoritative reference. Rgrames (talk) 16:27, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Duration of work

[edit]

The article states a typical duration of 14 minutes. This is the duration stated in Michael Kennedy's Catalogue, however it is not consistent with recordings extant. Those range from 13:35 to 19:10 with an average timing of 16:11. In fact, the only way that a performance could be completed in 14 minutes would be by taking notably faster tempos than specified in the score. I propose, absent objection, to edit the article to reflect the range of professional recordings, stating that recorded performances run from 14 to 17 minutes. • Support. The current wording is misleading. A more typical figure would be better, or a range as you suggest better still. Sir Adrian Boult takes over 17 minutes in the EMI recording I have just checked. --188.31.61.30 (talk) 21:27, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
