Performance problems/tuning
[edit]This page could use a section that lists the different ways to improve computer performance / lower performance. E.g. having a lot of files slows it down because..; Having this and that bad hardware slows it down because..; etc. --Mithcoriel 08:22, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think that would be appropriate. This is not a tuning manual, it is an article defining the term "computer performance". But maybe someone believes we should include a few examples of performance problems? Chris Loosley 11:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
To dos - academic significance
[edit]To have academic significance, the article should discuss latency, completion time, service time, bandwidth, throughput, relative efficiency, scalability, speed up; citing articles from academic journals.--BMF81 13:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
In this article I noticed the term speedracer and brainiac used. I'm almost certain that that is non-standard terminology. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.24.189.29 (talk) 21:11, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed, this is still a stub. I merged your list into the metrics section, and split off the relationship to software quality into its own section. All sections need fleshing out. There's probably a good survey paper somewhere, to use as a reference. Chris Loosley 19:58, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Lags - inappropriate
[edit]This article should somehow clarify that lags are not related to computing performance, but network performance. I also think that we should introduce "pops" for computing performance drops, yet I know that this is not how wikipedia works :/ --SerraAvenger (talk) 00:07, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just modified one external link on Computer performance. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/web/20070821212637/http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk:80/staff/S.Bhatti/D51-notes/node31.html to http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/S.Bhatti/D51-notes/node31.html
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}

The most notable thing...
[edit]The most notable thing about computer performance is that it has increased by twelve orders of magnitude since 1956 -- even as prices have fallen by many orders of magnitude.
Shouldn't the article have a section about that? 75.163.136.157 (talk) 13:18, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
