Compulsive buying
[edit]Is Oniomania the same as "Compulsive buying"? If so, I would suggest the article be moved to Compulsive buying which seems to be more common. --Vsion 01:36, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- my thoughts too, Oniomania is hardly the first search term someone wanting to find this article would use. I'm being bold and making compulsive buying and Compulsive spending redirects to this page. KTo288 18:35, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Also known as oniomania -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.97.110.179 (talk • contribs) 18:43, March 31, 2008 (UTC)
- I linked the two of them together. I'm not sure if a merge is in order here or not (i.e. if they're exactly the same). -- Scarpy (talk) 22:54, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Is This Listed in DSM IV?
[edit]Is this listed as an addiction in the APA's Diagnostic Statistical Manual IV or any other reputable evidence-based diagnostic medical guide? If not, I suggest that there be a preface to this effect, as well as balancing references from critics of this therapeutic model Calibanu (talk) 00:45, 31 October 2010 (UTC)User Calibanu
Do the cited references occur within peer-reviewed medical or professional journals, and are they references to primary research projects, or are they literature reviews? ````User Calibanu
- It's published in several journals, you will find them in the "references" section with the footnotes corresponding to the article. Please have a look at WP:NOR. -- Scarpy (talk) 03:14, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Proposed merge with Compulsive buying disorder
[edit]This is an uncontroversial merge. Both articles are about the same problem. I considered merging the articles myself, but I have too many other things to do. —Unforgettableid (talk) 21:18, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Neurological Basis
[edit]This article focuses on psychological causes, but this disorder might sometimes be a symptom of OCD, which many researchers see as genetic in nature, at least in some cases. Bostoner (talk) 00:28, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Section tone
[edit]I've added {{essay-like}}
to Compulsive buying disorder#Materialism and image seeking because the second paragraph reads like an essay. I don't have access to the sources provided, but I think that paragraph should be rewritten or removed. – Anne drew 14:31, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Anne drew Andrew and Drew: - I support outright removal. I don't have access to the sources either, but it sure seems like someone's personal essay as opposed to a scholarly take on the issue. More fundamentally, the entire point of the disorder is that it is a compulsive/uncontrolled version of a normal behavior - saying that everyone buys things in a globalized culture and that this is just an extreme version of consumerism does not actually add anything useful to the article - it's stating the obvious. What do you say of removal? ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 18:19, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- I have no objection to removing it. Thanks – Anne drew 00:08, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
Creating new page for 'Gear Acquisition Syndrome'
[edit]Hi All, I would like to propose creating a dedicated new page for the 'Gear Acquisition Syndrome', like it is on the German Wikipedia site[1]. I have recently published a research monograph on 'Gear Acquisition Syndrome' in music, which is open access[2] and sheds new light on the phenomenon.
In it, my co-author and I examine GAS comprehensively from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, including psychiatry, and conclude that GAS is distinct from compulsive buying and rarely a disorder (although we discuss techniques to reduce shopping addiction). As the author of this study, I cannot summarise our findings on GAS, nor can I create a dedicated 'Gear Acquisition Syndrome' Wikipedia page for ethical reasons. Therefore, I am turning to the community with this suggestion and hope that somebody, if deemed appropriate, will take the initiative to make the suggested changes. Thank you! Impact of Online Shopping and CBD
[edit]With the influx of various online platform and online shopping applications and the comfortability that they bring, it will be interesting to add a section dedicated to their impact on CBD. I am adding a subsection with the tile "Impact of Online shopping and CBD" to ensure the article considers current developments. I also will be updating most of the references that are out of date to new ones to ensure the article is upto date.
This should enrich the Compulsive Buying Disorder article for users to feel comfortable reading through here on WikipediaBabradu (talk) 03:36, 29 September 2023 (UTC).
