Changes proposal
[edit]I would like to propose some changes to this entry that i believe would help clarify the presentation of this subject. I think the content of this article is quite good although it lacks a certain coherency and should be focused more on the core concepts within complex systems(such as networks, nonlinearity, self organization etc.)
So I propose making some alterations, adding these sections to the article:
---Opening section---
Brief Definition of subject and of a complex system( complex system as a systems composed of multiple, diverse and highly interconnected components)
Complex systems as an alternative paradigm to reductionism
Complex systems as an interdisciplinary domain with contributions from different areas.
---Key concepts within complex systems---
Systems theory
Complexity theory
Nonlinearity
Network theory
Adaptive system & feedback loops
Self organization and evolution
---Application of complex systems within the various domains of science----
Earth systems science
Complexity economics
Systems engineering
Social network analysis
Complexity management
....etc
I would be happy to discuss this over with any one concerned! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.167.220.43 (talk) 09:17, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- I agree if this reorganization preserves much of the current content. By the way, the second figure should be updated, now there is a new version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complex_systems — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.171.137.212 (talk) 00:45, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Redirect problem
[edit]It seems the name of the page has been changed from 'Complex_systems' to 'Complexity_science' and redirects itself to 'Complexity_science'? That's the major thing I find confusing.Meclee (talk) 05:20, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Irony?
[edit]Perhaps there's some irony in the "unclear or confusing" tag? :P Maybe this tag should be removed, it seems like a clear article to me. If there's confusion, it might be because of the lack of clarity that the science as a whole has inherently. 98.219.192.79 (talk) 23:05, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Creation
[edit]This article has been created after a discussion on the Talk:Complex system talkpage, see [1]. - Mdd 19:33, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Let it be known that I passionately disagree with this separation. In addition I would like to point out that these articles are virtually the same at this point. They should have never been taken apart. I opt we put them back together. ⌘@ 07:40, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Strongly agree with this. There's no reason to split the two articles. The definition of what counts as a complex system could reasonably be included in an article about the study of such systems. RealityApologist (talk) 20:22, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
Footnote no. 8
[edit]Footnote #8 refers to some publication by Prigogine in 2002, yet the only reference available of his is his publication in 1997, I'm not sure where the error lies. Batula 21:28, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I just corrected it. - Mdd 21:57, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Creatures2.jpg
[edit]The image Image:Creatures2.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The copied and pasted from various Wikipedia articles into this article
[edit]I have cheked whether unintentionally various parts of Wikipedia articles have been copy-pasted here without proper attribution. Now it seems:
- This article was split for complex system by me, see here, Aug 2007
- And short but proper attribution has been made in that edit-summary.

Confusing tag
[edit]This article is confusing to most people without scientific background. For now I can only tell it is confusing. I am missing something to describe or help solve the problem at the moment. --Jangirke (talk) 14:26, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Categorization of complex systems
[edit]This page has an excellent graphic illustrating complex systems science. It would be beneficial for this page to become the foundation for a series which links all the sub-systems identified in the graphic, as follows:
- Game theory
- Collective Behaviour
- Networks
- Evolution & Adaption
- Pattern Formation
- Systems Theory
- Nonlinear dynamics
And also:
- Emergence
- Self Organization

Added "Complex systems" sidebar navigation template
[edit]I've created the draft template for the sidebar Template:Complex systems. Still a work in progress. I've included the graphic of the complex system organizational map in the sidebar, so I deleted the original image. Amcnamee (talk) 04:41, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Completed draft of sidebar navigation template
[edit]Simply based on the complex system organizational map, I have completed a first draft of a sidebar template. Most topics were able to be linked up to existing wiki pages. There are still some gaps but its a good start. There is some disambiguation in the categorisation of topics. For example, could "Game Theory" become the higher level heading "Behavioural Economics" or even "Economics" as economics is in fact the study of a complex system. Proposed trim or elimination of extensive list of Institutes, research centers, journals and other resources
[edit]The article has an extensive list of institutes, research centers, journals and other resources. I don't usually see such lengthy lists. I propose that it be removed. Isambard Kingdom (talk) 21:32, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
Done I removed the entire section, also per WP:LINKFARM. Isambard Kingdom (talk) 00:52, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
