Commuter rail
[edit]I have changed the designation back to commuter rail because, eventhough it runs by intervals and not a schedule, it still has at-grade level crossings which excludes it from being classified as a rapid transit system. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 03:49, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- Why does a level crossing prevent it from being Rapid Transit?
- I suspect this is a US/Europe problem. "Rapid Transit" is a US term, more common is "Metro". I suspect from reading between the lines in Wikipedia that there is some hard legal difference between "Rapid Transit" and "Commuter Rail" in the US. In Europe there are many cross-over systems which are more like a Métro in the city centre, but more like a "Commuter Rail" at the extremities where they share track with Inter-City and freight trains. (see S-Bahn, RER)
- P.S. What rail gauge is this network? TiffaF (talk) 18:20, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- The classification of this services is a big controversy, don't go into it if you don't want to get a headache.
- As for the gauge, the trains are all 1600 mm, but a stretch of the tracks (on line 8) is dual gauged for 1000 mm freight trains. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.162.198.176 (talk) 18:19, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
