What is a compact model?
[edit]The term compact model is not explained. A visit to the Compact Model Council didn't help either. What is it? --HelgeStenstrom (talk) 09:00, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Compact models are mathematical descriptions (equations) of semiconductor devices used in analog circuit simulators. (Source https://www.nxp.com/design/software/models/simkit/compact-models:COMPACT-MODELS)
- They usually take a form of a set of human- and computer-readable source codes. Their machine-readable codes embed into an analog circuit simulator as part of such simulator or are dynamically linked with an analog circuit simulator to run at the time of invocation. The opposite to compact model is a numerically intensive solution of differential equations that represent internal workings on semiconductor devices, based on current (flow) continuity and charge-potential relationship. The latter approach, which is not compact, is utilized for software know as device simulator focusing on a single or a few entities of semiconductor device.
