Supposed Acorn affiliation

The only source claiming CATU as an Acorn affiliate is Acorn, who are self-interested in this respect. Neither the CATU website nor any independent reliable source supports this claim, because it is false. 51.37.6.146 (talk) 01:54, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Hello! The concern is noted, though I feel it may be exaggerated - I can't see a big value for an international campaign group in claiming one more member. But with the concern raised and doubled-down on, OK, we can leave the point out while it is further studied. CATU only formed (gradually as I recall) across 2019, and the website seems to date back only to February 2020, but the affiliation seems to have (allegedly) occurred in December 2019. In fact, according to a second site, this ACORN was involved in the process of CATU getting organised ("Various delegations from Ireland, particularly in the Dublin area, had visited ACORN offices. One group went to Bristol and Manchester for training in September. Another group followed with a visit to the ACORN Living Rent affiliate in Glasgow. Both came away from the trips with a conviction to go forward with an organizing drive... The former home of world-famous novelist, James Joyce, was located off the Mountjoy Square Park, ... CATU is considering as a site for the launch meeting of the first group." & "In December, the ACORN board voted on the request of CATU-Ireland to affiliate with ACORN, and the response was unanimous approval." The background there, with Mountjoy Square and all, looks factual. It is clear that the two sites which touch on this are not independent (they are not dubious - we do not throw around such allegations lightly - but they are connected). Further, Acorn are not the only group involved - the European Action Coalition also claims CATU as a member, and is also not mentioned on the website (in long experience with the sites of such groups, this is not definitive, much is simply left out due to no one getting around to it). One possibility is that CATU and Acorn parted ways, for cost or other reasons, but the Acorn site contains multiple references to CATU, across several years, so this is not so likely. Somebody seems really determined to remove mention of Acorn. The Acorn source is absolutely fine for what is an uncontroversial, minor enough factoid. I'm adding it back. Bastun^{Ėġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ!} 10:27, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
