Splitting Page

[edit]

The Wikipedia standard is that each topic with the same name gets its own page and then a disambiguation page separates them. Using the google test, it's arguable whether the VT-UVA football game Commonwealth Cup is the most predominant usage of the term or not. The first hit is from the polo game, but that's just because of the URL.

I am going to split the content like this:

If somebody really has their heart set against Commonwealth Cup being the football game and thinks that it should be the disambig page with Commonwealth Cup (American football) being the page for the VT-UVA game, ok, but honestly (1) virtually all of the content is for the football game, (2) both wiki pages linking here are linking here for the football game, and (3) most google references are for the football game.

The image File:Virginia Tech football helmet.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Commonwealth CupVirginia–Virginia Tech football rivalry – The teams have had a long rivalry well before the Cup was created in 1996. Focusing on the Commonwealth Cup era makes this article very uninteresting, seeing as how Virginia Tech has won the Cup in 14 of the 17 games, and gone 13–1 against Virginia since 1998. 174.29.215.188 (talk) 05:48, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I note that there are other items at Commonwealth Cup (disambiguation) called "Commonwealth Cup":

If there is no primary topic for this then the links for the Virginia football rivalry should be disambiguated to Commonwealth Cup (Virginia). I'll do that as it never hurts to use more the more specific link. – wbm1058 (talk) 14:27, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Now over 50 pages link to Commonwealth Cup (Virginia). I found only one link to Commonwealth Cup which was intended for the horse race, which I fixed. – wbm1058 (talk) 15:26, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My problem with the above is that anyone typing Commonwealth Cup without any qualifier is taken to an article about an inter-college game of American football which seems bit US-centric and culturally biased. I notice that the horse race also has articles on the Japanese, Chinese and French wikis whereas the American football game has only a Japanese wiki article, suggesting that the horse race is rather bigger deal internationally. What's wrong with having Commonwealth Cup going to a dab page? Tigerboy1966  18:13, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Change "a four-week run" to "a three-week run" an error appearing in the fourth (4th) paragraph, first (1st) sentence. Virginia was only ranked #1 in week 8 (10/16/1990), week 9 (10/23/1990) and week 10 (10/30/1990). </ref>[1] C.E.Montgomery (talk) 01:27, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
