[edit]Is it possible to merge Commissioner of Health of the City of New York with New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene? --RandomUserGuy1738 (talk) 04:50, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Confusion: President vs. Commissioner?
[edit]I think this list may, at least in some cases, be listing people who served as president of the Board of Health as the Health Commissioner. I believe those were different positions. I am working on an article on Dr. Cyrus Edson, who served as the Health Commissioner 1893-5[1]; the article on Charles G. Wilson, listed in this article as the Health Commissioner during that time, says he served as president of the Board of Health. I will try to find time to sort this out, but someone else could sort it out as well. Brianyoumans (talk) 14:05, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- After doing some more research, I think that there was a lot of vagueness about the terms used early on. Some years the head of the Board of Health was listed as "president" and not as a commissioner. Sometimes he was listed as both. I think sometimes "Health Commissioner" simply meant a member of the commission.Brianyoumans (talk) 23:36, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
