notes and references
[edit]How is it that sources that directly cited in the text are "notes" and books that are relevant but not used are "references" ? Is it an American thing? --Cameron Scott (talk) 10:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well it is the difference between footnotes and general references (WP:CITE, and the previous version of WP:LAYOUT, seem to prefer "Notes" over "Footnote") - without it the single sections gets messy and unclear where one starts and the other begins (especially handy for footnoting references to books where the full details are in the references.
- My concern is there seem a lot of books in the reference section and some of them strike me as being better in a separate "Further reading" section but, as I've not contributed any information to this article I can't specifically say what was used as a general reference or what would count. We'd be better off if most of those books were used to add specific information to the article and footnoted appropriately (as opposed to being general references) with the rest shifted off to further reading. I'll leave that call to the active editors. (Emperor (talk) 17:05, 7 November 2008 (UTC))
Should there be mention of the Spidey Super Stories series? That comic book series was specifically made for teachers to give the students to read in the classroom. I even remember reading a coupon in one of them saying that teachers were encouraged to order many copies, and that a discount would be offered! CarpetCrawler (talk) 21:38, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, great idea!, that should be in here as an example - we could do with some material explaining what the aim of those comics was. --Cameron Scott (talk) 21:52, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
OSU
[edit]The Ohio State University now boasts a huge comics library, and is offering more and more comic books classes. A professor there has stated that he sees a not-too-distant future in which OSU has a Comics Studies program. http://cartoons.osu.edu/?q=home —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.49.19.90 (talk) 03:26, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
