Is this article to inform us about Iomairt Cholm Cille, or complain about the lack of treatment for the 27 speakers of Manx? - Calgacus23:47, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think you'll find that there are slightly more than that. However, I have seen one bizarre statement in the edits, i.e. "Manx is not Gaelic". Scottish, Irish and Manx were all Gaelic, the last time I checked.--MacRusgail16:54, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"to foster support for the Gaelic language (sic) and develop links between Gaelic Scotland and Ireland."
So says the article page but why the "sic"? Presumably someone thinks it should say "Gaelic languages". But I would imagine that the wording is intentional, and represents the view of the founders of the project. It is a perfectly tenable view that Gaelic is one language with a continuum of dialects, in fact, that is the way the language is seen in its own conceptual system by both Irish and Scottish Gaels, whereas the conceptual system of English regards Gaelic as multiple languages, one for each political country. We might as well then put "sic" after the examples of "Gaelic languages" in the article, but why not just leave it out altogether?
