This page is written in American English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, defense, traveled) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus. |
Actually, the Oxford dictionaries prefer the spelling "colorization", in line with both their preference for "ize" (which has never been uniquely American, contrary to popular belief, including among some Brits) and the principle that a "u" tends to be dropped before a Latinate suffix (cf "humorous", where dropping the "u" is mandatory). "Colourize" is an acceptable alternative (as is, though not always explicitly, "colourise"), but "colorize" is the British spelling preferred by Oxford dictionaries in the UK.
