Martyr
[edit]I'm not sure whether Colman of Lindisfarne is an appropriate title or not for this article? the problem is that I don't know where he was martyred. It's likely to be somewhere in Ireland, so the correct place name in Ireland where he was martyred would be better than naming him of Lindisfarne. -- Francs2000 | Talk 21:44, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
- Who said he was martyred? I thought he died of natural causes ClemMcGann 18:40, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Bede doesn't say he was martyred. He mentions a monastery founded by Colmán in Mayo, and another somewhere unnamed, but probably Inishbofin where Colmán retired to. Angus McLellan (Talk) 18:48, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Well the Catholic encyclopedia has him down as a saint, which must surely suggest a martyrdom at some point in history? -- Roleplayer 09:29, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- No, martyrs are generally saints, but saints are not necessarily martyrs. Angus McLellan (Talk) 20:18, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure the martyr is referenced here. --evrik 21:04, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- That's a different Saint Colman.Mannanan51 (talk) 02:52, 7 October 2011 (UTC)mannanan51
Colman of Lindisfarne is also commemorated (on February 18) within Eastern Orthodoxy. ````dnavaba
