I accidentally had too much fun at the local Irish pub tonight, so I will probably be reviewing this during teacher in-service time tomorrow. — GhostRiver 02:22, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox and lede

[edit]

Early life

[edit]
  • Link the first instance of surfboard
  • "His father makes "Balestar" surfboards, which are sold in most surf shops. Tom also runs a shop off of Slater Avenue in Huntington Beach." → "His father runs a surfboard shop off of Slater Avenue in Huntington Beach, and also makes "Balestar" surfboards, which are sold widely in surf shops."
  • Use the "convert" template for "83mph" to make it 83 mph (134 km/h)
  • Pipe "scout" to Scout (sports)
  • WL the first instance of shutout

Washington Nationals

[edit]

2004–2007

[edit]
  • Make sure you use an en dash instead of a hyphen for the subhead
  • Spell out the WHIP acronym the first time that it's introduced
  • Pipe "Washington" to Washington, D.C.
  • "expecting to not receive" → "expecting not to receive" (I hear the voice of my mother telling me not to split my infinitives)
  • "A week after being named to the Futures Game Roster, Balester was..." → "The following week, he was..."
  • "So eager was he to join the Clippers," → "In his eagerness to join the Clippers,"
  • No comma needed after "Tampa Bay Devil Rays"

2008

[edit]
  • Delink "striking out", already done in the early life section

2009

[edit]
  • Pipe "rotation" to starting rotation
  • "for one of the final two spots"
  • Lowercase "spring" in the second sentence
  • "During Spring training, he went 1–1 with a 6.75 ERA, getting reassigned to the minors on March 28, though he remained a part of the organization's long-term plans." → "After going 1–1 with a 6.75 ERA during spring training, he was reassigned to the minors on March 28, but remained a part of the organization's long-term plans."
  • Do we know what caused Zimmermann to go on the DL?
  • Comma after "from free agency and"

2010

[edit]
  • "in order for him to convert to being a relief pitcher" → "to begin the process of converting him to a relief pitcher"
  • Same as above, do we know why Atilano was hurt?
  • I don't think you need to mention that Weeks played the following day; it's certainly not recommended to start again right after getting nailed in the head, but I'm pretty sure Tatis just did it after Kennedy beanballed him
  • On second thought, maybe "Much like Weeks, Reynolds was fine" → "Neither batter suffered a serious injury"

2011

[edit]
  • I'm not sure the best way to reword this, but "to begin the season" shows up twice in consecutive sentences
  • Link the first instance of designated for assignment
  • Pipe "waivers" to Waivers (MLB)

Detroit Tigers

[edit]
  • Delink DFA here, as it should be linked earlier

Texas Rangers organization

[edit]
  • I'm wondering if there's more of a story here about the Tommy John surgery – did he leave the game with pain, had it been lingering? No worries if you can't find much more information, but worth checking out
  • "In 6 games (5 starts) → "In six games (five starts)" per MOS:NUMBERS

Pittsburgh Pirates organization

[edit]
  • "After starting the 2014 season on the disabled list for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, he rehabbed with a couple of rookie-level teams, then joined the Double-A Altoona Curve on July 31." → "Although he was assigned to the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, Balester opened the season on the disabled list and did not start pitching until he underwent a rookie-level rehab assignment. On July 31, he joined the Double-A Altoona Curve."
  • Drop the context for Indianapolis in the second para, as you mentioned it in the first

Cincinnati Reds

[edit]
  • "recording 7 saves" → "and recorded seven saves"
  • "a tie game" → "a tied game"
  • WL walk-off home run

Samsung Lions

[edit]
  • "Making three starts for the Lions, he lost each of them, posting an 8.03 ERA." → "He lost all three starts that he did make for the Lions, and recorded an 8.03 ERA in the process."
  • "and Balester considered retiring." → "and Balester considered retirement."

Last professional season

[edit]
  • I think you can shorten the WL to just "American Association", as that's what they tend to go by

Pitching style

[edit]
  • Same as earlier, wherever a speed is listed, use the convert template to include the km/h as well
  • Elaborate on the back leg dropping – how specifically did that impact his release?

Personal life

[edit]
  • The part about his sister might fit better in the early life, with the other stuff about surfing
  • Where it says "grew his mustache again", there haven't been previous references to said mustache, so it flows awkwardly
  • I also assume this was a Movember thing, in which case that page should probably be linked

References

[edit]
  • In [17], change the work from "Pennlive.com" to The Patriot-News
  • Detroit Free Press has a "The" in [58] but not in [52]; I believe not having it is the correct one
  • "MiLB.com" is inconsistently capitalized (I'm looking at [47] in particular)

General comments

[edit]
  • We're going to disregard the any issues from previous GA nominations have not been adequately addressed criteria, as the previous review was an auto-fail from literally a decade ago.
  • No stability issues (only one regular editor)
  • Pictures are both allowed for use and are relevant to the article, as they all relate to the subject
  • Earwig score looks good, the higher results are all attributed direct quotes
