Name of article
[edit]This article was renamed from "Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick" to "St Mary's Church, Warwick" in September 2010 by Necrothesp with the rationale "usual name". This church is undoubtedly referred to as "St Mary's Church" informally and in some circles, but the cited sources all refer to it as "The Collegiate Church of St Mary" or "St Mary's Collegiate Church", so I don't feel that an informal name is appropriate as the article title or is notable enough to mention as an alternative style in the article text, so I've returned it to the full name. The shorter name acts as a redirect, so people searching for that should find the article. mooncow 23:51, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Anyone new to Warwickshire visiting this church, as I have just been lucky enough to do, will not find much interpretative help for what they see from Wikipedia. The only historical information Wikipedia offers relates to a period nearly two hundred years before the self-evident reconstruction and redesign of the main building following the seventeenth century great fire of Warwick - which in all conscience should have been mentioned. It might also be worth explaining how it came about that the Beauchamp chapel survived that. One of the civic functions of the present church is again self-evident from its position - it may be in Church Street, but facing it at the other end of Church Street, across Jury (!) Street, is the eighteenth century assize court, to which the judges would naturally process from the church at the opening of every assize. Come on, project Warwickshire! - Delahays Delahays (talk) 13:28, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
