CSTO symbol
[edit]Does any information exist about the creation of the CSTO symbol? It looks familiar to NATO's (Image:Flag of NATO.svg): four arrows each pointed to one of the four directions, in a circle. Was this intended or coincidal? Sijo Ripa 13:19, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I may be digging here, but I would assume the four sides represent north south east west and their resolve to aid everyone everywhere.

Moving
[edit]The spelling has been rectified because the Organisation is in Eurasia and ought to be called after the only official form of English in Eurasia - the British English. This page should serve only as redirecting. Bogorm (talk) 12:06, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
legend of map
[edit]The legend of map categorizes Azerbaijan and Georgia as "observers". Is this correct? The article itself limits their status to "former members", therefore I doubt them to enjoy the official status of "observers" at present. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.60.136.77 (talk) 15:02, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Map
[edit]Currently maps in this article and elsewhere show Taiwan as part of the CSTO. Chinese claims notwithstanding, is this accurate? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.172.143.205 (talk) 04:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Founded when?
[edit]"The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO; Russian: Организация Договора о Коллективной Безопасности) is an intergovernmental military alliance which was signed on 15 May 1992. On 7 October 2002, the Presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed a charter in Tashkent founding the CSTO."
So if it was signed in 1992 then how on earth was it founded in 2002? Maybe it was proposed in 1992? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.145.251.34 (talk) 19:39, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Regarding the above comment, the treaty was signed in 1992, the Organization was created by UN Charter in 2002. (http://www.odkb.gov.ru/start/index_aengl.htm)
Further, the text of the United Nations Charter states that the Charter was "Done at Chisinau on 7 October 2002." Chisinau is in Moldova. The opening statement of this article, as we can see, states that the Charter was signing in Tashkent.

Article 4?
[edit]Article 4 similar to NATO article 5? Not according to the linked charter text. There article 3 has that text. However, that linked text clashes with the Basic Facts in the linked English version of the CSTO site. WTF? Can someone make any sense of this? 84.250.167.255 (talk) 12:45, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

Collective Security Treaty Organization → CSTO – There aren't really any articles on Wikipedia that "CSTO" stands for except this article. Plus, there is not even a disambiguation page of "CSTO", as shown with "CSTO (disambiguation)". Also, as shown by this Ngram, "CSTO" clearly supersedes "Collective Security Treaty Organization". As such, I believe this move would be a good move. How says everyone? Wikiexplorationandhelping (talk) 02:46, 13 February 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 06:53, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
SkepticalWeak oppose: Ngram is not the right way to evaluate this. Many sources probably introduce the full spelled-out term and then use the abbreviation repeatedly after they have explained it. In an Ngram analysis, this would result in many more uses of the abbreviated term than the full name, but does not indicate that "readers somewhat familiar with the subject are likely to only recognise the name by its acronym" (a quote from MOS:ACROTITLE). — BarrelProof (talk) 18:22, 13 February 2023 (UTC)- Also skeptical. WP:RECOGNIZABILITY is most important in WP:CRITERIAORDER, and the abbreviation is probably opaque to most readers, while the full name gives some hints to the nature of the subject. We don’t have main articles titled UN, EU, CAREC, CAU, CIS, EEU, ECO, SCO, OTS, although we do have ASEAN, NATO, and TAKM. —Michael Z. 21:40, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Shifted from 'skeptical' to 'Weak oppose' following the comments of Michael Z. When in doubt, Wikipedia should have a formal tone and possibly unfamiliar names should be spelled out. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:56, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

- Eh... While it is occasionally exclusively referred to as the CSTO in the same vein as NATO, I concur that ngrams is not the best measure of this and the CSTO isn't as well known as NATO, making the initialism opaque. Clyde!Franklin! 20:40, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
