Douglas Hyde account
[edit]Hi,
The paragraph beginning
Dr. Douglas Hyde tells of a wrestling bout that took place in Connacht in his "Amhrain Cuige Connacht" (Gaelic History of the provence of Connacht.)
....
is (somewhat slightly word-for word) from a single source. While an earnest-enough enterprise, it would not seem be be a reliable source.
The story is repeated in other places - ~ 45 GHits for Douglas+Hyde+tells+of+a+wrestling+bout - but it's pretty clear that their sources are Wkipedia.
OK, it's a copyvio and the source doesn't appear reliable. Is it dubious?
I would also suspect that there is in fact no book by Douglas Hyde called Amhrain Cuige Connacht. See the Results 1 - 48 of 48 for "Amhrain Cuige Connacht" - they are almost all the same results as for "Douglas Hyde tells..."
Without making any claim to read Irish, I would rather suspect that what has happened here is the original source confused "Amhrain Cuige Connacht" with "Abhrain gradh chuige Connacht - Love songs of Connacht".
It would appear that wires got crossed and then stayed crossed. As always, glad to be proved wrong.

Judo
[edit]I've asked for a citation about Judo. How is Cornish similar to Judo? Did a Japanese Judoka travel to the British Isles and train some folks in 1139? Hutcher (talk) 07:05, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit]To all those that noted how terrible the page was initially, I apologize. I actually started this page more than a few years ago (I think) and I literally had no real idea of what I was doing. My thanks to everyone who helped me clean it up. No name74331 (talk) 14:51, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
