This article is written in Philippine English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, realize, center, travelled) and some terms that are used in it (including jeepney and cyberlibel) may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus. |

Consensus regarding Colet's first name
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Four revisions were made to the article, changing Colet's first name from "Maria" to "Ma.". This happened following Colet's post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that her name is "Ma. Nicolette" and not "Maria". This post was further replied to by her, saying that "Ma." is a shortcut for Maria and is read as Maria.
Due to this, some anonymous editors are changing her first name in the article, stating in their edit summaries that it was "requested by the featured person". Now, I don't know whether we take indirect requests as a basis for contentious changes to BLP articles, but the anonymous editors are consistently changing this to "Ma." (as I was writing this, another anonymous editor reverted my edit). Hence, I'm initiating this discussion to generate consensus on what should be followed when it comes to Colet's first name here on Wikipedia (and possibly by other BLPs that have a similar case).
For me, I would rather follow what the reliable sources are mostly showing (which is "Maria") to conform to Wikipedia:Verifiability. AstrooKai (Talk) 11:22, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

- Yes, I saw your PP request. On the other hand, what are your thoughts on this (my topic above)? AstrooKai (Talk) 10:34, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Agree though this has to be raised in MOS:PHILIPPINES. Borgenland (talk) 12:33, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- MOS? Why? AstrooKai (Talk) 12:36, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- As far as I'm concerned, we're the only people on Earth where Ma. is usually an abbreviation of Maria. Borgenland (talk) 13:35, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hmm yea, as far as I know, Philippines is the only country in the entire world that abbreviates Maria as Ma.. AstrooKai (Talk) 13:52, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't know have a edit warring here, I can't every day checking on all articles of Bini due to reviewing all on AfC and New Pages, I assume that this is resolved now? Royiswariii Talk! 07:30, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- I guess it can be considered "resolved" since the article is now temporarily protected to prevent IP accounts from editing it further. However, the purpose of this thread is to establish a consensus on whether we use Ma. or Maria for Colet's first name in the article. You can read my initial message in this thread for the full details. AstrooKai (Talk) 07:42, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, then, I will close this discussion. Royiswariii Talk! 07:51, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

Florenosos
[edit]Hello, may I please know why Colet's maternal surname Florenosos was removed from the article? I know there was a debate over Ma./Maria, but I'm curious as to why the maternal surname was removed, though it is still in the "Philippine name" blurb above the lead section. Thanks so much!
- For some reason, the Reply button doesn't appear. Probably because this post is unsigned. Anyway, I removed "Florenosos" since it is not included in any of the sources cited, which may fail WP:FULLCITE. Per WP:FULLCITE, all content must be verifiable through reliable sources, and this is highly important when it comes to the names of a living person per WP:BLP.
- As for
{{Philippine name}}
, I probably have not noticed it and overlooked it when I made the edit. However, if you can find a reliable source that includes Florenosos as Colet's middle name, then it can be re-added to the article. AstrooKai (Talk) 12:26, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- This question is from Bloomagiliw. Royiswariii Talk! 14:46, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oh okay. AstrooKai (Talk) 15:43, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- How about this? https://kami.com.ph/entertainment/celebrities/170725-bini-colet-pabirong-tinarayan-na-naman-ang-isang-netizen-pwedeng-mag-wait-ka/
- IMDb Pro (the premium, professional version of the site) has that maternal surname on Colet's profile as well, but access is heavily restricted. Bloomagiliw (talk) 16:57, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- That Kami source may be used. Though I'm not confident in Kami's reliability or reputation. I have known Kami as a sensationalist source (known as tabloid journalism), and I often see it exaggerating stories. You may want to ask other more experienced editors regarding Kami's reliability here in Wikipedia.
- As for IMDb, they are generally considered unreliable here on Wikipedia (see WP:IMDB and WP:UGC) and should be avoided if possible, especially in WP:BLP articles. IMDb contents are user-generated, meaning anyone on the Internet can edit its contents, similar to Wikipedia. Since we're trying to cite a living person's name (specifically their middle name), a high quality reliable source is what is needed. AstrooKai (Talk) 17:38, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
