Great Work

[edit]

I can see you're working on a project here. Wanted to drop you a note that you're doing a great job, and this article is coming along well. -- Matthew Glennon (T/C\D) 14:51, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Press quotes

[edit]

These are entirely inappropriate for an encyclopedia article and are basically functioning as advertising. The review excerpts are all positive, are quite obviously "cherry-picked", do not include any criticism present in the review and are very misleading. Many of them are also from self-published or reader-generated websites and are therefore not reliable sources. Here are just 4 examples:

  • The Tempest - "Shakespeare himself would be at home in this production" referenced to Mylondon which also says:

"It also never really comes to terms with the problem of Caliban – not that now, with our modern-day attitudes towards disability and disadvantage, that there is, perhaps, a solution to Caliban. She’s played here by Clare Cameron with energy and presence, but lacking in either malevolence or a real ability to evoke pity."

  • A Model For Mankind - "outstandingly good". This quote refers to the actors' performances, not the play and is referenced to BBNews which also says:

"But, while it is salutary to be reminded of the Soviet past, Sheldon gets bogged down in the did-he-or-didn’t-he issue of whether Shostakovich betrayed Isaak. Unlike the question of whether Shaffer’s Salieri killed Mozart, it is not strong enough to sustain the play."

  • Secrets - "Secrets comes across as an entertaining and thoughtful production" is referenced to Extra Extra which also says:

"the unimaginativeness of the entrances and exits makes the experience of visually watching the play as one similar to sitting in front of a strobe light; as there are moments of brilliance followed by confusing darkness. Perhaps these moments could have been made a bit less conspicuous by more thoughtful light design, but Claire Childs sticks to tried and tested formulas rather than experiment with something new. The same could be said about the production's set/costume design by Phoebe Cole and sound design by Robert Lewis. Though the designs may be appropriate to the production, they fail to offer any sort of a visual or aural novelty."

  • Nightsongs - "beautiful and detailed...piercing emotional integrity" - again refers to two of the actors' performances not the play and is referenced to The Public Reviews which pretty much pans it:

"director Hamish MacDougall lacks enough of a holistic vision to tie this strange piece together and it sometimes feels patchy. Individual items which bizarrely work (the Lucian Freud-esque baby painting hanging above our sad couple’s heads like a noose or the selfishly ‘cool’ jazz music) are confusing when put together. [...] A harrowing but possibly unnecessary night of theatre."

To conform with Wikipedia's policy on neutral point of view, I am removing the quotes and leaving the references to the reviews for the reader to decide for themselves. Voceditenore (talk) 17:16, 3 June 2010 (UTC) updated by Voceditenore (talk) 05:53, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed "Upcoming productions". This is not the place to advertise your future productions, and "upcoming" is meaningless in an encyclopedia article. If the production is notable and already has press coverage include it in the main body of the text. Otherwise leave it out until such coverage is available. Wikipedia is not a free web space provider for the theatre and must not be used as one. Secondly, the biographies of the latest two staff added, are completely without references to verify the contents. Unless references are provided, they will be removed. Note also that this is an encyclopedia article. Per the Wikipedia Manual of Style, please do not refer to people by their first names. Finally, any editor who has any affiiliation whatsoever with this theatre and/or its personnel, should not edit this article again until they have read very carefully Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.
