THE UGANDAN COAT OF ARMS IS A NEAR COPY OF THE CHILEAN The mid-20th century Ugandan coat of arms is a brazen copy of the 19th century Chilean coat of arms. While some say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, this case is just shameless plagiarism.
Chile’s coat of arms dates back to 1834 and was designed by the English artist Charles Wood Taylor. Uganda’s coat of arms was adopted in 1962 and was designed by the South African artist Iaan Bakker. The deer in both coats of arms stands on the left while the bird in both pushes from the right. In Chile’s case, the deer is a Huemul while in Uganda’s is a Kob Antelope. Then the respective birds are an Andean Condor and a Crested Crane. Observe the identical position of all four legs of the deer as well as the two legs of the bird. What is the chance that these strong similarities should be just a coincidence and not an obvious sign of lazy artisanship? I would say nil. If anything, it shows total lack of creativity on the part of the artist. Plagiarism pure and simple. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pelloosah (talk • contribs) 02:12, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
