Coleman Glacier on Mt. Baker

[edit]

I suggest adding a clarifying note distinguishing this glacier from the Coleman glacier of Mt. Baker, which is also a popular climbing route. This is a source of confusion, and the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Wikipedia article incorrectly links to this site.75.172.24.32 (talk) 21:06, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done Thanks for letting us know. Katr67 (talk) 02:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name?

[edit]

I see no reason to mention that the glacier is also known as Coleman Glacier. Even though it is named for Elija Coalman (a.k.a. Coleman} there are no sources I can find that mention the variant spelling other than sites which probably derived their information for this article. If there are they should be cited. GNIS does not mention the alternate name. There is a Coleman Glacier on Mount Baker.

Even if the misspelling can be documented. I don't think it is worthy of mention here.  –droll [chat] 18:13, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All valid points. From a historical perspective, I ran across several mentions of the glacier with the alternate spelling, like USGS, climber's fact sheet, a memorial, and climbers talking to each other. Coleman is linked on that basis and per MOS:BOLD, it should appear that way in the article. Mountain climbers probably speak and hear the name much more than they write it or see it. Since the spelling is ambiguous, and apparently Elija was of doubtful literacy, having both spellings is helpful to the reader and does not present any problem. —EncMstr (talk) 19:03, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK.  –droll [chat] 19:30, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
