Role model

Role models are what Jackson's new film "Coach Carter," is all about. He plays Ken Carter, who began as a sports star at Richmond (California) High School, setting records that still stand, and then had success in the military and as a small businessman. He's asked to take over as basketball coach. An underpaid volunteer position; the former coach tells him, "I can't get them to show up for school." Ken Carter thinks he can fix that. There are a couple of anachronisms in this movie that I would like to point out (reminding you that the events were set in 1999):

1. Hercules High School is a great school. One of the schools the Richmond Oilers played against, never existed in that point of time in the story. Hercules Middle/High School opened in 2001; and I know this because I graduated there.

2. One basketball player in the movie is referred to as the "next LeBron". In real life, LeBron James couldn't really have been well known, as he wasn't even a high school freshman in 1999.

3. The movie is based on events that happened in 1999, but the movie itself might be set in 2005. 188.228.72.157 (talk) 21:54, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Side Note

Interestingly enough, in the 2002-2003 school year of Hercules Middle/High School, the varsity basketball team made it to the Division IV California State Championship at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, CA, playing against Horizon High School of San Diego. Unfortunately, they lost despite holding a winning streak. Geopgeop 09:28, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Damien

"Upon graduation, [Damien Carter] received a full scholarship to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point."

I know it says that in the film, but does the idea of a "scholarship" to a service academy make any sense? —wwoods 14:00, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Excuse me sir/ma'am ... Why do you have to be technical about everything??? For your information, I went to a military academy. They do cost money, and my outstanding academic performance in high school got me a scholarship. Please don't allow yourself to sound ignorant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.62.80.26 (talk) 21:43, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

West Point does not charge for admission. 71.232.55.113 (talk) 21:43, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

A scholarship does make sense. Each admitted cadet receives a full 4-year scholarship, which is paid in full by the United States Government and includes a monthly stipend to defray incidental expenses incurred by the cadets. However, the payback for this scholarship is a 5-year active duty service commitment.

Upcoming Edits

Hello my fellow Wikipdeians, as I was going through Coach Carter I noticed it needed improvement. First I plan on improving the lead section of the article by adding some key details in it to make it more professional. I hope to add some more information to the plot just to make it more interesting. I also plan to add more reviews to the critical reception section, because I feel like it needs more opinions about the film. Then I plan to add a bunch of information to the production section because it is empty. I will be adding some very important information there. Dharris221 (talk) 16:52, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
