"Cluster" in a church context
[edit]I have read the term "cluster" being used in the context of a group of congregations or pastors (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) but cannot figure out which exact level it refers to in this context. I have actually asked a few ELCA people and even pastors, but as this seems to be a term used locally in some synods only even they couldn't tell me. Can someone help me find a precise definition of the term in this context? Is a "cluster" identical with what is called a conference in other synods? Thanks! Anna (talk) 10:40, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just in case anyone ever happens to look in here with the same question: I got an answer here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Evangelical_Lutheran_Church_in_America . Anna (talk) 11:28, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
"Cluster" in terms of economics/business
[edit]I'm reading a text right now for school that's chock full of unfamiliar concepts, but it mentions clusters every other sentence. It seems to be referring to them as spatial grouping of similar businesses, perhaps so customers can shop around at similar stores and compare prices without walking too far? An example sentence: "Probably the most common type of manufacturing cluster to be found in developing countries is the survival cluster."
The closest thing they have to a definition is where they're saying particular researchers focus in too narrowly for what they consider a cluster,
"Most cluster studies deal with, for example, an area on the outskirts of a larger town where all vehicle repair shops/garages have been concentrated (see, for example, Kinyanjui, 1997). To put it bluntly, as soon as one comes across a few printing workshops next to those garages, the cluster ends."
The text I'm quoting from is, "Urban Cluster Trajectories in Developing Countries: Beyond the Industrial District Model", by Peter Knorringa.
None of the listed Wikipedia pages seem to have anything close to this, so I suppose I'm suggesting a new page. Jojojlj (talk) 05:42, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
