The Stream SDK page has to get written to replace this one. There is no point expanding this one further, it is just a stub article for some beta software that never saw the light of day.

I agree, plus CTM was not replaced by OpenCL, it "evolved into CAL" (AMD's own words). OpenCL is high level GPGPU API whereas CTM (now CAL) is low level one. OpenCL acutally replaced Brook+ -Kralyk (talk) 22:56, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
the meaning of the expression, "close to the metal"

same. maybe it's considered wiktionary territory? either way, it's weird for this article to not even mention what the name means. the first sentence is especially odd ("In computing, Close To Metal [...] is") because it's technically true (proper noun, missing "the") but very misleading to anyone who's here because they searched "close to the metal" (for which this page is the #1 result). 2601:182:C67F:9E50:3DD0:443B:16F0:A198 (talk) 04:44, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
