[edit]The references 1 to 5 in References section seem to have no relevance to article. Aruncus (talk) 01:38, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
I have done an edit on the Clogheen entry over the last few days, Rashers Tierney and others have also made contributions.
The Father Sheehy reference I edited is brief, but I believe it is historically accurate. Its difficult to condense the story to one paragraph.
Just a couple of thoughts I have on a couple of statements in the entry.
From the History section....The first substantial records of the village date from the Cromwellian period, but the village would not come to note until the 18th and 19th centuries. It then became a local centre of trade and social activity, hence its name, "Cloichin an Mhargaid", which translates as "The Little Market Stone". I believe that last line may need revision, it infers the name came from a market stone. I am under the impression the whole area was known as Clogheen first, then to differentiate it from Burncourt which was also in the Clogheen area and still went by that name, the larger Clogheen became known as Clogheen Market ...because at that stage it was a market town. Mabye others have views or sources on this?
In the Modern times section it states It is now primarily an agricultural town
Again I think this infers there is a creamery or an agricultural supplies sector so perhaps this needs re-phrasing

- A search for Clogheen in Power's The Place-names of Decies will I think provide your ref. regarding name. RashersTierney (talk) 22:41, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Rashers, thanks for the feedback. I was aware of his take on it, rightly or wrongly I had come to the other conclusion, it could be going into original research territory though, I will read over another priests writhings; Burkes papers on Shanrahan and Burncourt Castle, I think that could be where I was getting the impression from.
