[edit]What is clinical pharmacy and what is the scope of it?
This article falsely states that clinical pharmacists prescribe medications. Only Doctors (M.D.) are able to do that. A clinical pharmacist might instead recommend medications. I am only commenting for how the system works in America, I don't know about other countries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.42.92.28 (talk) 23:16, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Actually, a pharmacist can prescribe if they enter into a collaborative care agreement with a physician. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.147.28.1 (talk) 15:40, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree. Doctors (Pharm.D./pharmacists) do prescribe in the United States under collaborative practice agreements. The collaborative practice agreements work in a similar fashion to the agreements between a doctor (physician) and a nurse practitioner (NP) or physician's assistant (PA). Many doctors (Pharm.D./pharmacists, D.O., D.M.D., D.D.S., Ph.D., D.V.M., O.D. and D.P.M.) are able to prescribe in various states under certain restrictions. The thought that the M.D. is the only doctorate level degree that allows prescriptive rights is antiquated and erroneous.
Clinical pharmacy: Is the the branch of pharmacy that deals with the study of drugs or medicines in contrast with their specific diseases
Some pharmacists do prescribe in the US, per physician consult agreements and "privileging" (hospital-based consult agreements). I would agree that "all pharmacists are clinical pharmacists," to some extent, although there are pharmacists that work in less clinical positions (e.g. in pharmacy administration, or in managed care).
