Talk:Cleveland Middle School (Tennessee)

Not notable?
[edit]So we got users claiming this doesn't meet Wp:Schooloutcomes when it was determined to months ago? If so, then what makes Ocoee Middle School notable and this article not. As now referenced this school is one of the largest and most renowned in the state. Bmag32 (talk) 23:30, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with the redirect, but only re the article in its current form. If there are sources supporting the size and renown of the school, then adding these should be sufficient to address the notability concern. But we need the sources first, and then we can reconsider the redirect. the article on Ocoee Middle School has a fair few references, and even then only just crosses the notability line - we need this many and more from reliable secondary sources.
- By the way Bmag32, thanks for so quickly finding the reference for the Governor's visit. Euryalus (talk) 23:59, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- No, you have no third party reliable sources that say anything of the sort. You had a link to the school's own website where they made that claim. Not enough to establish notability anyway, even with 63 references. As you've already been advised, Ocoee has been redirected, and WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS is not a valid argument against deletion/redirection the panda ₯’ 00:17, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- No third party sources, eh? Is the banner source not a third party? This actually might not be notable, even with what the banner says. I got (dumbassly) fooled by Ocoee and the middle schools in the Decatur City Schools district, not just because of high acclaim, but because of how long the articles have managed to exist and the fact that some have even been deemed notable through deletion discussions, not necessarily othercrap; they shared almost identical aspects as this school. But all have been redirected recently, and this school might should stay a redirectBmag32 (talk) 01:54, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- At best you have references that this school is good at being a school and possibly a governor visited there once. None of that shows notability for a middle school It's great that the school got good scores, but under what criteria is excellence an equivalent to notability? Notability is all about significant coverage in secondary sources. It has absolutely nothing to do with fame importance or excellence. Since we have no specific guideline for notability for a school (other than the school guidelines, which say middle schools do not get articles) we would default to WP:ORG. That requires significant coverage in reliable sources in geographically disperse areas. How many middle schools get covered for anything significant in out of town papers? Other than schools that get default notability for being on the NRHP, I can only think of two middle schools in the whole country that meet that criteria. One in Florida that was destroyed once by a hurricane and one in LA that has won architectural awards up the ying yang.John from Idegon (talk) 04:24, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- And that closes this up. This school is notable. And there are still a lot of school articles out there to take care of.Bmag32 (talk) 15:18, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- You are right BMag32, that there are lots of schools to clean up, but this school is not notable. That's why it was redirected. Thanks for your help here and in the future! Jacona (talk) 15:41, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
