Elks at Clarke Stadium
[edit]Throughout the era that the football team played at Clarke Stadium, they were the Eskimos. The use of the name "Elks" when discussing the 1949-1978 era is anachronistic. To change everything in this article to Elks is like editing the Winnipeg Arena article and changing all the mentions of Winnipeg Jets to Arizona Coyotes. Indefatigable (talk) 19:50, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Anachronism as side, there's a reason they changed their name and it's not the same situation as the Winnipeg Arena. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:09, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not censored. It would be a misguided historical coverup to go through dozens of articles on historical events in Canadian football and pretend a modern name was in use decades ago. Indefatigable (talk) 15:17, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- I can see this is going nowhere. Open it to a larger audience? Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:13, 27 June 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed. I added a notice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Canadian football. Any other places you'd suggest? Indefatigable (talk) 16:28, 27 June 2021 (UTC)
- I was going to open an RfC today, but seems you went to a board, so I mentioned it at Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:25, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Clarify, is there an attempt to retroactively erase Edmonton Eskimos from Wikipedia & replace it with Edmonton Elks? GoodDay (talk) 01:27, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Not on my part. It just seems that if the group found their name so offensive that they would change it I'm not sure why we would continue to use it. A full discussion of why the name was changed could (and should) be carried out at the team's article. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:44, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- If the team name was Eskimos, when the played at Clarke Stadium. Then we use the name Eskimos. GoodDay (talk) 02:24, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
