Correction to: When the last intake had progressed to the Sixth Form, the Sixth Form college was formally established.
'Hyde Sixth Form College' opened in 1980. It became a sixth form college in 1980 when most schools in Tameside became 11–16 schools. The premises had some duality both as a School and a Sixth Form College up to 1984 whilst the last intake was educated up to 5th year O-Levels. I was in the school intake of 1975 and did my O-levels in the summer of 1980. I was entered into the exams by 'Hyde County Grammar School'. I then went as part of the first intake to the newly established 'Hyde Sixth Form College' at the same premises in September 1980. I resat one of the exams in October 1980 and was entered by 'Hyde Sixth Form College'. In 1982 I sat A-Levels and was entered by 'Hyde Sixth Form College'. This is typed on my exam certificates. When I left in 1982 boys in 3rd 4th & 5th years of the school still wore Hyde Grammar School uniforms, I don't know if they were entered into exams by Hyde County Grammar School or Hyde Sixth Form College. I suspect the former but have no proof.
When the sixth form college opened in 1980 the courses on offer were mainly aimed at A-Level students. I don't recall any NVQ's being available (there is the possibility of woodwork, metalwork & PE) but students did sit O-levels and AS-Levels. This was all in the time before GCSE's were introduced, which were first sat in 1988. I don't have a wiki account nor wish to establish one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.154.63 (talk) 15:01, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
