Areas of improvement
[edit]I think this article needs to better communicate Clarence's teaching methods/philosophy, impact, and recognition (among other expansions). None of his many awards, honorary degrees, or induction into the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History are listed, for example.
Needs serious expansion on leading the "Potsdam Miracle", where a small state college with average admissions and a standard mathematics curriculum produced the most mathematics majors in the USA, second or third only to a school orders of magnitudes larger and better funded. Stephens had a similar (though less documented) impact at the HBCU where he taught previously.
He taught and inspired many students, including some who went on to themselves become some of the first African Americans to earn mathematics PhDs - perhaps PhDs who he taught would be a section to add?
Two particular sources that could be very helpful: The book Beyond Banneker by Erica Walker, and the book mentioned in the article. IllQuill (talk) 22:27, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
