Phrasing of sources v. articles

[edit]
  • Some examples as mentioned in the DYK nom. The entire article should probably be checked though; it's not too long.
    • "In 1948, Potter launched a ready-to-wear company called Timbertop, with a former magazine editor, Martha Stout. The name came from the turkey farm in West Nyack, New York, where Potter lived with her husband J. Sanford Potter (died 1994), an architect.[2] She later set up a wholesale company in New York in the 1960s." vs. "In 1948 she went into partnership with Martha Stout, a former magazine editor, in a ready-to-wear company called Timbertop. The name came from the turkey farm in West Nyack, N.Y., where Ms. Potter lived with her husband, J. Sanford Potter, an architect."
    • "one 1940s outfit combining a rose-colored blouse with a green belt and pale blue floor-length skirt." "One outfit of the 1940's combined a rose-colored blouse, a pale blue floor-length skirt and a green belt. "
    • "By the mid-1950s Clare Potter was in business on her own. She worked out of a barn on her farm, assisted by her husband in drafting her dress patterns." vs. "By the mid-1950's she was in business on her own, working from a barn on her farm with her husband drafting the patterns for her clothing."
    • "Her husband designed and built a Japanese style house in the late 1950s in Fort Ann where the couple lived the rest of their lives, growing camellias and raising Dalmatian dogs," vs. "In the late 1950's, Mr. Potter designed and built a Japanese-style house in Fort Ann on Lake Nebo, where the couple grew camellias and raised Dalmatians." I've reworked these and also double-checked other sources actually spotted a couple of things I had missed first time round (easily done) so thanks for the heads up. How does it look now? Mabalu (talk) 10:34, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks better. BuddingJournalist 23:42, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clare Potter thanks

Moved the following here to keep at the article as well...

The image is great, and I had a look at your edits - really good. I'll come back to the references you inserted and re-work them to fit into the format of the other references within the article, but wanted to say thank you. Do you have a special interest in American fashion history? Mabalu (talk) 22:24, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the compliment, I have an interest in topics related to New Jersey (among many others), think that images almost always enhance an article, and try to be thorough in researching topics I choose to edit. Often, I have personal experience that enables me to find sources readily or contacts for photographs and relevant materials. ---- 83d40m (talk) 22:52, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
