I, Czar Brodie (talk) 15:05, 8 June 2008 (UTC), have made major edits to Clan Brodie. The original [link to edit as of February 2008] was looking very patchwork. I have backed up the information, where possible, with links to public domain books. This can allow the reader to verify sources and continue with further reading from the comfort of their armchair [and for free]. This also allows more reliable source material. I take issue with some of the other clan histories that refer to internet clan histories to back up their claims. The information for internet clan histories are usually copied from each other. This, in my felling, creates a dubious use of sources that is difficult to verify. An example of information used in this way towards Clan Brodie is: "The Clan Brodie are also believed to have assisted the Clan Munro and Clan MacKenzie when they defeated of the rebel Alexander MacDonald of Lochalsh in 1497". I have not been able to trace the original source of this info, yet many clan sites happily refer to this, no doubt quoting each other as source. I think that the reason for this is laziness. There is a wealth of information in publications located in the public domain, and dedicated sites allowing this information to be accessed via the net. One just needs the time to sort through it.
Nota Bene: I must inform the reader of a possible Wikipedia:Conflict of interest in my editing of Clan Brodie. My name is Alexander T. D. Brodie of Brodie, the articles referred 27th chief of Clan Brodie. This may give rise to a conflict of interest. In my opinion it does not, it sort of makes me a special expert in the field; but the reader, who may take a different opinion, should at least be aware of this. Note on the spelling of "Lord Huntley" in 18th Century & Jacobite Uprisings. this may be "Lord Huntly", but my references spell the name Lord Huntley and do not indicate exactly who this was. See also Declaration of the Earl of Mar, September 9, 1715 [1]. Accordingly I have not linked the name and will be needing further info/ref. on the subject. Note on Alexander Brodie of that Ilk, 19th chief of Brodie, Lord Lyon King of Arms under the heading 18th Century & Jacobite Uprisings. Alexander was one of the more colourful chiefs, and a great deal can be said about him. However, at present the only on hand reliable source that I have for this chief is the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, entry: Brodie, Alexander, of Brodie (1697–1754). While I have referred to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography in the article for his position as Lord Lyon, I have decided to leave off on giving further information. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography is not one of the public domain sources, and accordingly is under copyright. if I overly transcribe information from this one source there may be problems relating to the infringement of the copyright. Accordingly I am hopeful to find further sources for a summary on his biography, but until then I think it wise to leave the information as is. Czar Brodie (talk) 19:54, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
