Nationality?
[edit]English-Irish? Surely she's just plain old British, if she was born in Stockport? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.153.100.95 (talk) 20:01, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]My apologies to anyone connected with Ms Foy, or anyone who enjoys her work, or indeed to the whole world, for the rubbish quality of this photo. I'm not really safe to be let out with a camera... (But the other shot that I took was even worse). In reality Ms Foy looks at the camera, is quite smiley, and does laugh quite a lot. I don't seem to have caught any of that.
If anyone can upload a better photo and replace this one, please please do. The people at her fan site claire-foy.org may be able to help. Remember, though, that WP has quite strict requirements on copyright clearance -- material will only be accepted if there is specific permission for it to be used not just by Wikipedia but by anyone in the world, for any purpose (including commercial re-use), and anyone in the world must also be modify the pic, and re-use the modified pic (eg crop it, photoshop it, paste it into something else, etc...) This is part of what Wikipedia sees as its mission to build up a resource of material that is free for people to re-use without needing further permissions. This is a much more extensive permission than is usually granted for publicity photos; so we usually can't use standard publicity photos or screenshots, unless we have the copyright owner's specific agreement by email. why?
[edit]"She was described as being "heavily pregnant" in January 2015." Is Wikipedia a gossip rag now?

Duchess of Argyll
[edit]Why isn't Foy's leading female performance as the Duchess of Argyll in this production noted anywhere. in Wikipedia 24.47.169.102 (talk) 20:40, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

"British" actress
[edit]Why is Claire down as a British, instead of English actress?
There are plenty of famous people on Wikipedia from completely Irish families (e.g Johnny Marr) that are listed purely as English. 85.255.234.175 (talk) 11:19, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- There are, but there is also great inconsistency on this issue amongst articles. And it doesn't make much sense if it's an accommodation to her Irish roots since Irish people are not British anyway. I myself would prefer in these cases to drop the label altogether, just say "....x is an actress...." and give the facts as in the article text further down. But others will disagree.
