Civil Disobedience in a forum not geared toward appeal of a law not being Civil Disobedience

if a contestant lays a claim to the constitutionality of the law.. only through public disobedience with a direct goal of actively and presently appealing the law is it deemed Civil Disobedience.. Incorporating it into your private life with a adamant goal of partaking in as well as actively fulfilling that goal when available through protests is not enough? That private use is deemed self-gratis.. as though that somehow invalidates any nobler pursuit.. is not self-gratis a preserved freedom? Why is there such bias to a aggravated time-line of open and public appeal and an equally negative bias against self-gratification when that is the most base pursuit in all other freedoms of self? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.222.56.230 (talk) 16:25, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Internet and civil disobedience

Is LulzSec disobedient part of society? Should this sort of view be mentioned, or leave to academics to be found later and mentioned +15 years from now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.90.76.130 (talk) 07:12, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Anti-war cartoons

Just to let you know that I have loaded several cartoons onto Wikimedia Commons under Category:Anti-war cartoons. Feel free to use them on Wikipedia articles. Nirvana2013 (talk) 08:34, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

John T. Scopes

John T. Scopes also used civil disobedience to make a statement about the law in Dayton, TN that you could not teach the Origin of Species in schools. After he was convicted, he is quoted saying "Your Honor, I feel that I have been convicted of violating an unjust statute. I will continue in the future, as I have done in the past, to oppose this law in any way I can." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.190.95.247 (talk) 19:32, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Earliest examples

This part in the overview section:

One of the oldest depictions of civil disobedience is in Sophocles' play Antigone, in which Antigone, one of the daughters of former King of Thebes, Oedipus, defies Creon, the current King of Thebes, who is trying to stop her from giving her brother Polynices a proper burial. She gives a stirring speech in which she tells him that she must obey her conscience rather than human law. She is not at all afraid of the death he threatens her with (and eventually carries out), but she is afraid of how her conscience will smite her if she does not do this.[7]

seems to be rather on the boundary of original research (the citation given is to the actual text of the play, so its interpretation as civil disobedience seems to be the editor's own research). In any case, the story of Kaikeyi in the ancient Sanskrit epic Ramayana is probably older, and is quite similar. However, I do not see any point in including out of context references to either of the above arguable fictional depictions in the Overview section: they just seem to break the flow of an historical overview of civil disobedience. 128.32.168.63 (talk) 02:55, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Lumumba?

He is listed as one of the people involved with civil disobedience, but did he ever actually advocate or practice it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.59.214.71 (talk) 01:19, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

WBAI and Filthy Words?

WBAI airing the track Filthy Words is mentioned in the article as an example of CD. However, I could not find any claim that they were intentionally violating FCC's rules. They broadcast Filthy Words (once, for all I can tell), received a desist order from the FCC and legally fought that. That's admirable behaviour, but not CD unless they knew the FCC would come knocking. Can we please have a better example or a source that confirms they were intentionally forcing the FCC's hand? I'm not changing the article because I think having a CD speech example is important. Also, I'm slightly afraid that US residents will tell me "well, duh, it was obvious the FCC would jump on them for that, they'd been censoring lots of should-be-protected speech at that time." 2A01:198:200:9BD:0:0:0:2 (talk) 03:13, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
