Sources to explore
[edit]Not signing each line. These are sources that might be useful to others in expanding this article. Mortee (talk) 08:25, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
- The Daily Republican, 1896 for someone with Newspapers.com access. Description, with references, of four swords, to judge from the snippet.
- Book talking about Cromwell's interaction with the Pearl Sword. Might be worth looking into
Ceremonial Swords of Britain- Description of the funeral of William Staines, featuring the "civic sword and mace"
- Another mourning sword among "the Swords of Washington". Perhaps there are enough around to split out a dedicated article on Mourning Swords.
- Description of the State Sword, description of the Old Bailey Sword (presumably) as "a common sword for the sessions"
- Stories about a visit by Lord Mayor Sir Denys Lowson to Australia in 1951, bringing swords, possibly the first trip for some of them:
- State Sword, first trip (tabloid)
- dropped it in the jam??
- Sword and Mace on tape
- more
- Pearl Sword and State Sword went to Canada in 1936
- State Sword pictured]
- State Sword of York used in a similar ceremony to the Pearl Sword and in the Telegraph (history of the sword)
To Do
[edit]- Find better images of the swords themselves
* Find more detailed physical descriptions of the swords, perhaps in Ceremonial Swords of Britain
- Find a clear expression of the role of the Justice Room sword (presumably the same for the Justice Room as the Old Bailey Sword is for the Old Bailey, but the sources I encountered aren't explicit on that point)

- @Mortee: I suggest moving "relected collections" to a new article: Ceremonial swords in the United Kingdom. Firebrace (talk) 00:34, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, @Firebrace:, I'm planning to, now I've started to come across more of them and a book that shows they're a topic in themselves. Mortee (talk) 10:51, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
