Columbia Editorship
[edit]An edit war has ensued regarding changes involving Columbia University's takeover of the publication. I have updated the page to reflect Columbia University's role in managing the journal; this takeover took place in January, 2015. I have cited the ASA page, which states that the journal is under new leadership; as the page states, "The official term for the new editor (or co-editors) will begin in March 2015, but the new editorial office and team will begin the transition on January 12, 2015. The editor will commit to a three year term (through December 2017) with a possible reappointment of an additional three years".[1] I have also cited the managing editor's university bio page, which states his and Columbia University's new role in managing the journal.[2] Though the ASA "City & Community" page still lists Hillary Silver as editor-in-chief, this information is out of date and will remain so until July 1st, 2015. The information I have cited is enough, per Wikipedia's standards, to warrant the update. Please stop this edit war. Finelinebilly (talk) 21:02, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, but it is not enough. Where do the names of those new editors come from? A bio page for one of the people involved is not enough for this (which, by the way, only says that Venkatesh and Freeman are editors, not all those others). The ASA page you linked to only says this is going to happen, but not that it has happened. You may have direct information, but we can only write what the sources say, so please revert back to the last version and wait until the journal's own page reflects these changes. --Randykitty (talk) 21:15, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
I disagree that the information provided is "not enough." The ASA page states clearly that there is new leadership taking over the publication as of January, 2015. This information strongly implies that Hilary Silver and Brown University are no longer affiliated. Moreover, Venkatesh's official bio page lists his affiliation with the journal. I checked today and the ASA "City & Community" page will not be updated until July 1st, which mean that by your reasoning, the page will contain outdated and therefore, incorrect information for six months. The information that I provided meets Wikipedia's standards, so I will not be reverting the edit. Finelinebilly (talk) 21:30, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- How did you check whether the page would be updated? I don't see that mentioned anywhere. If they can't be bothered to update their info in a timely manner, I don't see why WP should change anything. The sources that you provided do not support the changes you made, those are WP's standards --Randykitty (talk) 21:40, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
