Comments

I have yet to check some aspects of this well-written article, but I should be completed in a few days. Many of the comments I have made are minor and can be easily sorted.

* Three of the images that are on the left at the start of a subsection need to move to the right hand side of the article.

* The article contains a number of very short paragraphs, which are discouraged at GA level. You should reduce the number of these by merging them into other paragraphs where this makes sense.

* As they should be avoided, you should remove all the following words/phrases: ‘’not’’; ‘’current(ly)’’, e.g. “currently houses the Cathedral Museum”; ‘’many’’; ‘’several’’; ‘’a number of’’; ‘’just outside’’.

Lead section :* Remove some of the "significant facts" to create a better summary of the article (consider removing "with most of Gozo's population being captured and enslaved" and "effectively transforming it from a medieval castle into a gunpowder fortress").

:* Expand the UNESCO Tentative list status in the main text; remove the reference from the lead section and put it in the main text.

:* Replace the infobox image with one that shows more of the architecture (e.g. see right)

Prehistory and antiquity

• Explain more about the “limited evidence” and the nature of the “architectural remains”.

• Limited remains - mention the damage caused by previous (unscientific) excavations.

Medieval period :* “By the end of the 13th century, the Cittadella housed some Sicilian or Italian noblemen” – why is there a choice here?

:* Rabat is the local name used for Victoria, but is referred to as a suburb in this section. You need to make the use of the name Rabat clearer.

Hospitaller rule :* The attacks, sieges and sacking of the Cittadella would make more sense if the Order's arrival in Malta and the conflict with the Ottomans was summarised in an initial paragraph, and a link for further information to the article History of Malta under the Order of Saint John was provided.

:* Replace ‘’however’’.

Other buildings :* Remove the hyphen in the hyphenated phrase.

Fortifications :* Correct the spelling of ‘’échauguette’’.

Recent history :* Give more details of the restoration project undertaken by the Maltese Government over the last decade.(link), e.g. what was discovered by the restorers, how their plans were modified.

External links As all your citations are external links, the External links section as it currently stands, containing a link that is already referred to. is redundant and should be removed.

:* Change the Malta link in ref 11 – it does not send you to the cited reference.

:* Victoria Local Council (ref 8) - original link does not work.

• VisitGozo.com (ref 13), Gozo Diocese (ref 37), malta-canada.com (ref 39) and Reach Malta (ref 51) - you need to find more acceptable sources as these websites are self-published.

Wikilinks and References :* Add links to Wikipedia articles as follows: Punic and Roman in the lead section; Stone Age in the Prehistory and antiquity section; Genoese in the Medieval period section; Mines, curfew, enceinte and bastions in the Hospitaller rule section; courthouse in the Other buildings section. :* Remove any duplicate links (e,g, Gunpowder magazine) within each section.

:* Move up any links (e.g. Curtain wall) to the first place they appear in the article.

:* Check your wikilinks lead to the appropriate place, e.g. Invasion of Gozo (1551)/sacked and Cathedral/Cathedral of the Assumption Gozo.

* Add a Further Reading section to include publications about the citadel, for instance The Gran Castello at Rabat, Gozo (2011) which you can find here and here; Fortresses of the Knights (2001) to be found here.

* Refs 2 and 9 require pages numbers as the sources have multiple pages.

* The link to the original document in ref 5 does not work.

Although I already made a few edits today (and added a few sentences about the 1798 invasion in the beginning of the "French occupation and British rule" section), this week I am a bit busy so I probably won't have much time to edit the article.
