Old Old Books
[edit]Having a part of my day off, I extracted some of my books about South African history from my shelves. My Mother studied Journalism in Apartheid South Africa, and together with my Father, they travelled and collected books relating to South Africa's political and historical history... to the latter years, mainly for their travel purposes.
I now have all of these books, most of them still packed away in boxes. From time to time I manage to find a book with information (which may even be Apartheid Propaganda)... but I try to keep to facts.
Learning about the Ciskei today, makes me feel embarrassed. After 1994, I knew the name stood to importance... but until today, I did not know why. I also now understand Ronnie Kasrils better... I first recognised him as the South African Intelligence Minister... knew his pictures... but did not know he was there at the Bisho Massacre.
God save us all. The Bisho Massacre is surely remembered by most members of the struggle. But I fear that we are not teaching our children about it. I hardly knew the impact it had on the region... I'm disgusted that the third-force argument actually fits neatly around the incident... I do believe that FW de Klerk would not have been part of it. But that remains to be seen.
The Ciskei needs more attention on Wikipedia. I hope we can get some real and live inpout on the subject. ObseloV (talk) 18:17, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Border Controls
[edit]The statement "However, there were no border-controls between South Africa and Ciskei" is not entirely accurate: there was certainly a border control post at the Fish River bridge (the buildings still remain as of 2013) - a real nuisance for regular travelers between Port Elizabeth and East London, who had to park, get out of their cars (which were sometimes searched when the officials felt particularly officious) and had to queue in the building to have their documents "checked".Elio1 (talk) 04:55, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
