Grasshopper 2 or 3
[edit]Most of the official sources call the helicopter either a Grasshopper 2 or Grasshopper 3. Official entry for G-AWRP shows CIERVA CR.LTH1 GRASSHOPPER 2[1], an Airworthiness approval note from the same source has Cierva CR.LTH1 Grasshopper 3[2]. No mention of the term Cierva CR Twin (no Google hits either and just one mention from flightglobal for Cierva Twin) (surely the CR is part of the model number (for Cierva Rotorcraft Limited). Just some thoughts perhaps a re-direct or move is called for from Cierva Grasshopper or similar. MilborneOne (talk) 23:25, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Flight 9 March 1972, pages 353-6 has an article on what it calls the Cierva Twins, specifically the Cierva Twin 420 and 640. There is no mention of the Grasshopper III. The same article mentions the Grasshopper I and II as the Walter Mikron and Minor powered first and second prototypes of what is often called the Rotorcraft Grasshopper. These were certainly antecedents of the Twin, with two engines and co-axial rotors, but very different in appearance, layout, role and capacity. The Twin, or Grasshopper III flew at the 1970 SBAC show; the 1970 Flight list has it as the Cierva CR.LTH-1, like the CAA records but without the name. The later Flight article does not mention CR.LTH-1. LTH = light twin helicopter?TSRL (talk) 19:17, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
